Evacuation Day

Today we had our evacuation day where the children took on the role of evacuees. They each brought a selection of items from home, were given identity cards and details of their new host families.

We also learned about rationing and made our own wartime recipe; an egg-less sponge cake! The children then evaluated this on taste, texture and appearance.

Throughout the day we discussed the emotions and thoughts that evacuees would have had during this uncertain time and listened to real-life interviews from child evacuees during the Second World War.
