I’m so pleased to see how much effort you are putting into your Second World War homework projects – keep up the good work!

In Art, we have been analysing and evaluating propaganda posters from World War Two. Looking at word choice, colours and imagery, we then made our own posters aimed at mothers/ host families by using persuasive techniques.

Here are some lovely examples from Advit, Alan and Isla:

Next week in SPAG, we will be focusing on:

  • Using and identifying different sentence types – simple, compound and complex sentences (with subordinating conjunctions).
  • Using a variety of openers (-ing,-ed,fronted adverbials and simile openers)

Below are some useful websites.

Evacuation Day

Today we had our evacuation day where the children took on the role of evacuees. They each brought a selection of items from home, were given identity cards and details of their new host families.

We also learned about rationing and made our own wartime recipe; an egg-less sponge cake! The children then evaluated this on taste, texture and appearance.

Throughout the day we discussed the emotions and thoughts that evacuees would have had during this uncertain time and listened to real-life interviews from child evacuees during the Second World War.
