Welcome to Class 5!
A gentle reminder that, for health and safety reasons, children should not be wearing earrings for PE lessons. Please remove these on our PE days or provide something to cover the earring (plasters) if this had been recently pierced and so can not be removed. Our P.E. days are now on a Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Our P.E. topic this term is cricket!
Week beginning 1st May
It was with great excitement and nervous anticipation that our three F1 teams arrived at UTC Reading for the Regional F1 in primary schools Finals Day. The Fierce Flames, Flaming Vehicles and Golden Eagles all from Y5 eagerly awaited their chance to impress the judges. After months of hard work – learning how to use the Silhouette design software, getting businesses to sponsor their teams, drawing up fantastic logos and creating eye-catching portfolios – the teams were ready to represent St.Anne’s.
Each team set up their amazing pit displays showing off their incredible work and team colours. The judges enjoyed many offers of sweets, cakes and the most enormous doughnuts you’ve ever seen!
Each team had to give a presentation to three of the judges telling them all about their F1 journey. There was some tough questioning from the business judges, but our teams were ready with the answers and carried on smiling throughout!
We got the chance to check out our rivals during the lunch break. There was a school from London, one from Hertford and another local school from Caversham. There were nine teams competing, and some fantastic displays.
And then, the excitement grew – time to race! This was the moment of truth for our teams – had we done enough to build the best cars? After a few false starts our cars whizzed down the track, just seconds from start to finish!
By the end of the day the judges had conferred and the results were in. A few nail-biting moments later the announcement came…..and Fierce Flames won the Verbal Presentation certificate! And then we were told that we also came third in the whole competition!
A brilliant result for all our fantastic F1 children. They did St.Anne’s proud, showing immense teamwork, great problem solving and behaving in wonderful sporting fashion. Congratulations to everyone!
Last Week of term

We had a very special visitor come in to help us called Pamela Farries (who had a PhD in engineering). She was extremely helpful and guided us through what could make our cars faster.

Also this week, in Maths we have been looking at triangles.
