Week 1 - Starting Year 1

Year 1 have settled really well into their new routines and style of learning with continuous provision alongside small groups.

We learnt class routines and aspects of the day that we will do daily e.g. dough disco. If you would like to do dough disco too then it can be found on https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOcPymb-OvBy6NN-nkIHG4eXNC_mksrAx

We started our first week getting to know the class and discussing our feelings using the book "The Colour Monster". We sorted the coloured counters to each emotion and made our own loose parts faces.

We also drew ourselves for our class display, wrote Year 1 common exception words in sand and made faces with playdough.

Week 2

In week 2 we started our usual timetable including all of our core subjects and wider curriculum.

The class were very excited to have their first history lesson and learn about Kings and Queens from the last decade and we even made our own timelines of who has been our monarch, who is our current monarch and who will be our monarch.

In Design and Technology we learnt all about Gustave Eiffel and all of the amazing structures that he had designed. Did you know that the Eiffel tower was built to be an entrance to the French fair in 1889?!

In Maths we started "Place Value to 10" and we sorted buttons by shape and colour, as well as making numbers to 10 with objects.

In Literacy we discussed all that we know about buses and even made our own class fact book about buses. One day there was even a messy class and we think it might have been the Naughty Bus visiting..

Week 3

During our third week in year 1 we were discussing the Creation story in RE and we ordered images of what happened on each day and then drew our own representations of each day. We also learnt a creation song that you can sing along too on https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=566579981&rlz=1C1GCEB_enGB1043GB1043&q=creation+song&tbm=vid&source=lnms&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=2ahUKEwjUgNrvzraBAxXkQUEAHZtUCjEQ0pQJegQIDBAB&biw=1366&bih=619&dpr=1#fpstate=ive&vld=cid:4689414b,vid:aoehyq6X650,st:0
