Art Day
We started this term off strong with an artday that focused on Elmer the elephant. We made our own class Elmer as individual examples.
RE
This time of the year is a very important time in our church comminity and we have been learning all about Easter, the accension, Jesus' teachings and pentecost.
We started off by using peg dolls to retell the story of Easter, hot seating the disciples and discussing how the events following Jesus' death and resurrection effected those closest to him and the wider community.
We have then looked at some of the parables in which Jesus has helped others; including feeding the 5000, The good samaritan, The prodigal son, Healing the blind man and Jairus' daughter. During this unit we made our own baskets of fish and bread, wrote our own prayers and acted out the good samaritan parable.
Literacy
Our text of this term is Lost and found by Oliver Jeffers.
This term we have covered adjectibes, adverbs and tenses as well as briefly looking at similies. The children have written character descriptions and polar animal fact files before finishing by writing their own lost and found books.
Maths
In maths we have finished our mass and volume unit by looking at whether a conatiner is full or empty and measuring the capacity of containers.
We then moved onto counting in multiples, halving, making equal groups and sharing in our multiplication and divison unit.
For fractions we have started to look at half and a quarter and we will continue with this unit in Summer 2.
Science
In Science this term our topic has been plants and the children have been so enthusiastic about plant based provision as well as exploring the school grounds to discover our local plants.
We have learnt the different types of plants, the differences between wild and garden plants as well as all about trees.
Geography
In Geography our topic has been the United Kingdom and we have taken a whistlestop tour of all 4 nations as well as learning about our capital city - London. We started off the topic with our own landmark sightseeing bus tour and have enjoyed provsion and learning linked to a nation a week following this.
ICT
This term our ICT focus has been Beebots. We have learnt how to programme them, made challenges for their and turned ourselves into human Beebots. We made our own class Beebot mat and were able to navigate to each others images too.
